At 7:32 I am beginning the latest release from Death Cab For Cutie titled “I Will Possess Your Heart” off the soon to be released album Narrow Stairs. At 7:41 I will be finished and I will have a little more to say about it. Two and a half minutes in to the song is the same repeating bass line and dissonant confused guitar. At three and a half minutes, things are picking up. Ambient washed out vocals are moving around behind everything else and the song is getting louder and more focused. At exactly 4:35 everything comes to a halt and the amazing Ben Gibbard has his way with you. Things are a bit different compared to Plans. It’s the kind of song your jock friends wouldn’t call you a pussy over when they caught you listening to it and it’s a bit more interesting than previous works. The beginning is repetitive but the payoff is excellent. I’ll write more about the rest of the album when I find it online or if a local record store sells it early.
