I first downloaded this album due to its really high rating on Pitchfork. Upon my first listen I was not at all a fan, it was too weird for me. Not to mention that some songs are reminiscent of Love Inc. which is never a good thing. But when I put it on today while cleaning my room and making lunch it was a completely different story. I like i quite a bit, it remains weird but it sounds great in the background!

I’ve written a tiny bit about The Eels in the past but there is so much about Mr. E and his beautiful blues that I have to say so here goes. The Eels, fronted by A Man Named E, Mr. E or The Elusive Mark Oliver Everett, formed in 1995 after the mildly successful solo project of Everett. The first full length record Beautiful Freak had two top-ten singles as well as a single in the top 50. Their albums have been cited by American congress, their songs have appeared in an uncountable number of films and television series (over 20, actually) including every Shrek movie and have 6 full length studio albums. They have been active for over 10 years, and you have never heard of them. In my 6 or 7 years of knowing them, only 2 or 3 people have ever known who I was talking about when they were brought up in conversation. Now don’t interpret this as a pretentious ‘I know a band you don’t know’ thing. Cause I bet you do know them. You just don’t realize it. But go out and buy the records so you can explain to me how such a thing can happen in the music industry. The invisible chart topping band.

Parallel Or Together – Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
I’d like to announce now the extra special news that my best friend Jakob F. will now be contributing to this wonderful blog on a regular basis as well. I thought it would be excellent to have a second musical taste on here and although our tastes are similar, there are enough dissimilarities that it will improve the experience of the blog.

Today on the bus I was listening to Radiohead and reading the last 3 chapters of Fight Club and it was one of the best reading moments I’ve ever had. For 2/3 chapters, fight clubx50 and the final scene with Tyler Durden and the narrator, The National Anthem was playing. Perfectly suiting the intense imagery. And just as I finish that chapter and begin the last chapter, Heaven, How To Disappear Completely comes on.. If you havent experienced this, do it. I can’t speak for those who have read it since the effect may not be the same but try it nonetheless. It was amazing.

I am completely confident in saying that I could listen to only Radiohead’s Amnesiac for ever and not listen to anything else.. ever.
It should be required listening in every music class and it should be in every film’s OST.
